NORTH CAROLINA – Today, Avangrid Renewables won an auction held by the U.S. Department of Interior for one of North Carolina Wind Energy Areas. The Kitty Hawk Wind Energy Area is 122,405 acres off the shore of the Outer Banks. Rachel Weber, Campaign Organizer with Environment North Carolina, issued the following statement in response:

“North Carolina has a great opportunity to take advantage of the untapped resource right off our shores. The successful lease sale of one of North Carolina’s Wind Energy Areas is an important step forward to tapping into this tremendous clean, pollution-free resource. We look forward to continuing to work with local, state and national officials to bring offshore wind to North Carolina.”
